While waiting on the boat for other photographers to return from the island, the birds kept flying by, so we spent the time photographing them. Puffins generally fly in a straight line, not a surprise when they fly mostly over the ocean, this does make them a bit easier to photograph because after you spot one flying towards you their flight path can be predictable. They also have rapid wingbeats so to get the wings frozen meant shooting at a fast shutter speed. In this case I was shooting at 1/3200.
I really like the ocean color in this photo. With the very calm conditions the water was a beautiful shade of blue, almost like glass, with just a few ripples to give the water some texture.
