As we waited to go in search of frogs one evening at the lodge, we spent the afternoon near the feeders which are by a pond. One of us noticed a small bird halfway out on the pond sitting atop a dead log. It only took a few seconds to recognize the shape of a kingfisher. At first I thought it was a belted kingfisher, but when I zoomed in and noticed the feathers weren't gray but green, we figured out that it was a green kingfisher instead.
It spent the better part of 30 minutes watching the pond and making dives to catch some dinner. Every time it dove, it would fly in an arc and then come back and land on the same spot.
